Community Zine: De/Composition

The Haida Gwaii Media Collective is calling for submissions from locals to create a zine together!

What is a Zine?

Zines are small DIY magazines often created in social movement subcultures to spread art and information in an accessible way, reducing the barriers around who shares stories.

Theme: de/composition

What does it mean to decompose? What becomes of something when it is broken down?

What does it mean to compose, or be composed of?

How does (de)composition show up in your life? What does it mean to you?

How do composition and decomposition interrelate?

Any interpretation is warmly welcomed.

Guidelines for submission:

Any form of media that can be printed is welcome, for example: poetry, stories, illustrations, comics, collages, reflections, photographs, doodles, research, graphics…

Everyone who makes a submission will receive a $50 gift-card for a local business of your choice!

Deadline for submission:

March 5th, 2024

Eligibility:

Everyone! We strongly encourage anyone who feels called to this to participate, including amateur writers and artists. Submissions can be made anonymously or with full credit given - whatever you’re comfortable with.

Art night:

We will be hosting an art night where folks can come ask questions and work on your art/ideas in a shared space. Date TBD. We will have art supplies and snacks to share.

Email your submission or any questions to: contact@haidagwaiimediacollective.com

Fundraiser: Proceeds of the zine will be donated to a land-based grassroots initiative (TBD).
